The Department of Botany was started in the year 1965 under the Mahatma Gandhi University. It was elevated to the status of Post Graduate Department in 2014. The department aims to provide skill oriented quality education to students and currently offers B.Sc. Botany programme with Phytochemistry and Pharmacognosy as choice based course and Post Graduate programme in Botany with Biotechnology as the elective course. The sanctioned strength for undergraduate programme is 32 and for postgraduate programme is 10. In addition to the UG and PG laboratories, the Department has a well-equipped Phytochemistry laboratory. The Department is receiving financial support under the Star College Scheme of Department of Biotechnology, Government of India.
