DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW:
The Post Graduate Department of Commerce, with a legacy of 55 years is poised to become an internationally renowned centre of Commerce and Management studies with its recent international collaboration. The Department has made an MOU with International Skill Development Corporation Limited, UK for offering ACCA, a globally acclaimed professional qualification for the B.Com students of our college. The Department has also changed its stream from B.Com Computer (Model 1) to B.Com Finance and Taxation (Model 1), to cater to the changing career aspirations of the students. The Department recently attracted considerable media attention when it brought together its 54 generations of alumni together under the same roof on August 04, 2019 by organising a mega alumni meeting ”Oru Vattam Koodi”.
The Department co-hosted an international conference on the theme ‘Economics and Politics of Climate Change’ during Jan 6 to 10, 2020 bringing together climate scientists and activists across the world. The Department also was the first in the college to organize an international webinar on 30 May 2020 in collaboration with John A Walker School of Business, Appalachian State University, USA.
Majority of our students are pursing professional courses like M.B.A, C.A, ICWA, CMA and ACCA after their graduation. A good number of our postgraduate students are clearing NET and JRF exams consistently every year. HOD’s Desk
It is indeed a great honour and a mighty responsibility to be designated as the team leader of the Postgraduate Department of Commerce having a grand legacy of 55 years. A department with the largest student strength, a department with one of the most heterogeneous alumni members, a department with one of the highest cut-off marks for admissions, a department with the least number of drop outs, the Postgraduate Department of Commerce has a lot of peculiarities to its credit.
The department which had a rich galaxy of eminent professors in the past is now led by a vibrant team of 8 young faculty members, each competing and cooperating with each other to make the department scale greater heights. We are also blessed to have the patronage of our retired faculty members in all our endeavours. We have received two scholarships for our students from our retired faculty members, as a testament of their trust and love to their department.
Presently, 3 faculty members have been awarded PhD in the department and our long cherished dream of a research centre is likely to materialize very soon. We also broke new grounds with our professional partnership with International Skills Development Corporation, UK to offer ACCA qualification to our B.Com students. The faculty members are constantly striving to upgrade themselves to give their best to the students. And we do hope that our students would regard their department fondly as their perennial source of positivity at any point of their lives. We are there for them always.
Thank you
