The Department of Mathematics came into existence in 1955. The Department offers Undergraduate and Postgraduate programmes with an appropriate blend of pure and applied Mathematics courses and job oriented add on courses. More than 70% of the faculty are with Ph.D., M.Phil or university ranks. The teachers are actively involved in doing research projects and published more than 30 papers in National and international journals. The area of research includes Algebraic Graph Theory, Fuzzy Mathematics, Algebra, Mathematical Morphology etc. The department has been the alma mater for more than 800 Post graduate and 2000 undergraduate students. The department is successfully conducting an add-on-course in MATLAB with UGC funding since 2015. The department has always been committed to sustain excellence in its academic pursuits as well as co-curricular activities.

Endowments
The Department introduced many endowments for the student for sustaining academic excellence. Prof.K.P.Geevarghese memorial prize for the topper of BSc., Prof. P.I.Daniel endowment prize awarded to the meritorious student in each year of BSc. And MSc. Course of Mathematics are few of them. The Department celebrated its Golden Jubilee with more than 500 alumini. They introduced an endowment for financially backward students excel in academics.
