Entrepreneurship Club


 

         Kerala, a 100% literate state has the highest rate of educated unemployed in the country with over four million unemployed youth on the live register of Employment Exchange. This comprises about two million graduates and otherwise technically qualified. In the course of the last four decades, Kerala has attained worldwide acclaim for its achievements in the social sector, particularly in the health and education system. But the performance in the industrial sector has not been keeping pace with the potential of the state. Government of Kerala has recognised this factor and have instituted bold and forward looking measures to tap the unique strength of the state aimed at providing a sustainable stimulus for industrial growth.Department of industries & commerce , Govt. of Kerala, formulated a scheme to set up “ Entrepreneurship Development Club” in schools and colleges of the state to inculcate “Entrepreneurial Culture” among youth and equip them with the skills ,techniques and confidence to act as torch bearers of “Enterprise” for the new generation.The mission of ED Club is to develop institutional mechanism to create entrepreneurial culture among the stakeholders and to foster growth of entrepreneurship among the students and the society at large. Under the initiative of the Industries Department of Government of Kerala in association with the Mar Athanasius College, a unit of the ENTREPRENEURSHIP DEVELOPMENT CLUB, is functioning at the College which is registered with the District Industries Centre under the Entrepreneurship Development Club programme of the Department of Industries & Commerce with registration number EDC/EKM/10/16.

ACTIVITIES OF THE CLUB 2016-17:

Sri. Biju Abraham, Manager, DIC, Ernakulam inaugurated the club activities of the academic year 2016-17 on Dec.19, 2016. Dr. Densely Jose, Principal Mar Athanasius College, presided the meeting. Sri. K Reghukumaran, Asst. Dist. Industries Officer, Kothamangalam and Sri. Geo Jose, Taluk Extension Officer felicitated the meeting. Student representatives Sajith K Baiju welcomed the gathering and Martin George proposed vote of thanks. Teachers-in-charge of the ED Club Dr. Igy George (Co-ordinator), Smt. Sheeba Stephen, Smt. Feba Kurien and Sri. Jishin Prakash T.S. guided and supported the students. Sri. K. M. H. Iqbal, Master Trainer, H R Departmet, Govt. of India, Guest Faculty (KIED, Armed Forces Police) conducted a session on the qualities required for a good entrepreneur. An Entrepreneurship Awareness Camp was conducted by KITCO at Mar Athanasius College Kothamangalam from 19.12.2016 AN to 21.12.2016 in association with NSTEDB, Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. 80 students from the science stream and 40 students from commerce an arts stream were attended the camp. Resource person from KITCO, Sri. Dileepkumar K. handled a session on motivation and communication skills. Also there were sessions on banking skills with reference to the formalities of loan approval, entrepreneurial qualities and project identification handled by various resource persons from KITCO. As a part of the camp, an industrial visit was arranged to the factory of Eastern Treads Ltd at Oonnukal in Ernakulam District.
